Reopen the Wells

by Lauren Eshenour on May 11, 2023

Pastor Lauren Here!

I'm going to use this blog to share new, original songs from either myself or the Abundant Harvest Church Worship team.  My personal goal is to have enough in our repertoire that we can record a live worship concert in 2024.  I'll use the blog to share a bit about the song's story and include the video.  I pray each song is a blessing and ministers to the Church.

REOPEN THE WELLS:  For the second year in a row, I led a songwriting retreat at our cabin.  However, this year it wasn't coming together like I wanted.  I opened it up to quite a few people outside of our church and had no "bites."  I kept asking the Lord, "What do you want me to do?"  I finally opened it up to the AHC worship team and three people responded that they would go.  So, I decided to make it that the first day, I would go by myself - just me and Jesus and a keyboard.  The second day the rest of the group would come.

The week leading up to the retreat I kept asking the Lord, "What do you want me to focus on writing?"  I really believed the Lord wanted me to write a song on the wells in our lives that were once filled to the brim for His plans and purposes and had been filled in with rubble because of time and trial.  Friday morning of the retreat came and my first song just poured out of me in my worship time with the Lord - totally unscripted - yet precious.  (I'll share it some other time).  Then came time for me to actually put in some work.  I started looking up every verse I could about wells and assessing what the Lord was saying about wells through Scripture.  Following this, I began putting concepts together and singing some short melodic lines.  I knew I wanted it in 6/8 and somewhat of a minor tone.  I spent about an hour on it and realized I was writing some really good lyrics, but I was really writing two distinctly different songs.  One was more of a desperate plea and one was more of a story.  So, I grouped my lyrics for song one, ran with it, and shelved my lyrics for song two.  That'll be another day...

After many hours of toil, this song came about.  There were still a few lines that needed to be tweaked here and there.  However, as I was writing it, I sensed the heart of God.  I sensed the prophetic unction that this is a song for NOW.  I sensed that the Lord is going to use this to revive hearts and restore His Church.

This is a very basic recording and there is some skipping in the second verse (I don't think my computer could handle the data input).  However, I pray that this is a blessing and sparks a deep, reverential fire in your lives for God to revive, restore, and reopen the things are closed.
