Prayer #12: Growing in Favor with Man
(I Timothy 4:12; 2 Corinthians 8:21; Daniel 1:9; Proverbs 16:3; 2 Corinthians 2:14)
Luke 2:52 - And Jesus kept growing in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.
Father God,
Proverbs 3:1-4 expresses well this attribute and the way to achieve it:
“My child, never forget the things I (wisdom/Christ) have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. 2 If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. 3 Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. 4 Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.”
May _____________ take great care to do what is right in every situation, first of all in Your sight, but also in the eyes of men. May no one discredit them because they are young; may their example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity be an inspiration to all who interact with them. Just as You gave Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the chief eunuch, I pray that You would give ______________ favor with all those whose authority they are under.
I ask that my grandchildren would develop good manners—making eye contact, enunciating their words, shaking hands firmly, and giving respectful greetings and acknowledgement to people they meet. May honoring others become a high priority for them. I pray that the approval of man will not be my grandchildren’s motivation. Instead, may they seek hard after You so that a good reputation will follow them by Your favor and blessing. May they have eyes only to commit their works to God so that You can establish their plans. Thank You, God, for going before ____________ to prepare the way before them to have favor with people so that the fragrance of Christ within them draws attention and glory to You.
