Day 2 - For the Parents

Deuteronomy 11:18-19 - Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Heavenly Father, I lift before You the parents of my grandchildren, ___________________. If they do not truly know and serve You, I pray for their salvation so that this household would be governed by Your truth. Draw them to impress upon their own hearts the truth in the Bible so that they can learn how to teach them to their sons and daughters as they move through the rhythms of life.

I ask You to enlarge these mothers’ and fathers’ vision for parenting. Pour into them discernment and wisdom for this significant responsibility. Strengthen them to be willing to set aside their own desires and dreams for the benefit of the children You have given them. Inspire them with the grand opportunity they have in raising these children to be warriors in Your kingdom.

O God, parenting is a daunting task and impossible to do well in our own strength. So much in our world today fights against the ability to raise mature, well-balanced, conscientious children. I thank You that they do not have to do this in their own strength, but that You are by their side guiding with Your love, wisdom, perseverance, resources, creative solutions, common sense, and self-control as they model and teach mature adulthood to their children. Enable them to sow well into the soil of their children’s lives and reap a harvest of godly offspring. Once their children have grown into adulthood, may they know the sweetness of friendship with them.

In the name of the Father and the Son, Amen.
