Day 39 - Discipleship
Father God, My heart longs to see discipleship as a normal, vibrant component of my grandchildren’s lives. You have set forth the pattern in 2 Timothy 2:22 for the spread of Your gospel and Your ways:
“The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”
So first of all, I ask that ______________ would be the eager, trustworthy learners that value having more mature Christians speak into their lives. They will be wise and hear instruction and increase in learning, and be boys and girls, men and women, of understanding who acquire wise counsel” (Proverbs 1:5). They will desire to be in company with strong believers who model a faithful walk with You. I ask that You would handpick the right disciplers for each of my grandchildren and give them opportunity to connect and commit to one another. Stir the older ones who are well-suited to speak into my grandchildren’s lives, to obey and understand that they have so much to offer. Sovereign Father, I trust You to provide who my grandchildren need in each season of life. May ____________ never lack a trusted, mature mentor in their lives to whom they can go for encouragement, teaching and advice.
At the same time, Lord Jesus, instill in my grandchildren’s hearts a vision and passion for becoming one who disciples others. Cause them to know that they need to pass on what others have given to them. Give them opportunity to develop skills and confidence in how to pass along truth to others with the end goal of those believers also becoming disciplers. Insecurity and doubt have no place in my grandchildren’s minds in this arena, just humble and simple obedience. May the knowledge that You are with them always be their strength (Matthew 28:20). May they never stop learning from You so that they are equipped to encourage others to grow and be faithful to Jesus.
In the name of Jesus, our model Discipler, Amen.
