“The one you fear is the one you seek to please.” – Bob Sorge in Dealing with the Rejection and Praise of Man
The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Proverbs 1:7
Oh Lord, today as I behold who You are, a holy fear is before me. With eyes of fire, You see my every action, thought, and motive. Your eyes roam to and fro throughout the earth to see whose hearts are Yours. Nothing in all of time gets past You and, one day, every action, thought, and motive will be burned up. Everything of eternal value will remain but everything that I did not do unto the Lord will dissolve as ice on a hot iron. Lord, I recognize You are a just and worthy Judge whose judgments are always true.
Father God, I recognize the role that holy fear plays in my heart that needs to be revived. If I don’t have the proper view of You as the final authority, I will not walk with a revived heart. Oh Lord, wake me up to a holy fear! Let me live, daily, with the deep understanding that You are a good, just Judge. Bring to my mind the truth of living for eternal reward – with a healthy fear of the Lord.
Today, I remind myself of the truth that, “The Word of God is living and active…it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) Help me to judge my thoughts and motives rightly by the Word of God.
Thank You that Your truth and proper fear of the Lord brings freedom, not bondage. Thank You for setting me free with the truth that You are to be revered in holy fear.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
