Do not worship any other God, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Exodus 34:14
Oh Lord, when You reveal Yourself through Your names, it’s meant to communicate about Your heart and about our relationship to You. While You are a Jealous God and Your name, “El Qanna,” means, “Jealous,” it’s not what we understand as jealousy. You are jealous for my heart and affection. As Dr. Tackett says in the Truth Project, “El Qanna arises when sin threatens a covenant relationship.” It’s in Your nature to fight for us – You and I!
You pursue my heart and never stop pursuing. You desire for there to be oneness between God and man – and You stop at nothing to make that happen. You hold Your arms open in pure love even when I’ve defiled myself with lesser lovers (idols). You don’t relent in Your desire to see my heart totally belonging to You. Thank You for never giving up Your pursuit of my heart.
I confess that many times I do give my affections to other things. I tend to rely on lesser lovers instead of running to You. I find comfort and look for joy in others, things, and distractions. I have often found myself emotionally dependent on others when You should be my Dependency.
Today, I commit myself afresh to El Qanna. Thank You that You don’t give up on my heart and that You give grace to walk out my relationship with You.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
