Then Moses said, “Now, show me your glory.” And the Lord said, “I will cause all of my goodness to pass in front of You, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in Your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. “But,” he said, “You cannot see my face for no one may see me and live.” Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in a rock and cover you with my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.” Exodus 33:18-23
Oh Lord, today I stop to ponder Your goodness. When Moses asked to see Your glory, You showed him Your goodness. From Your goodness flows mercy and compassion. You pour it out in liberality on whomever You wish.
In the Psalms, David sings of Your goodness – “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 23:6) Because You are good, I can have the hope and ability to dwell with You in heaven for all eternity. It’s because of Your mercies that we are not consumed. Your nature to be good pours forth compassion and mercy like a waterfall filling a riverbed.
Oh Lord, I worship You today because You ARE good. Goodness comes from You and is defined by You. In Your goodness, You care and sustain. In Your goodness, You correct, guard, and guide. In Your goodness, You pay for my sins and empower me to overcome. In Your goodness, You speak and heal. We don’t deserve Your goodness – yet You faithfully show it to us. You are worthy of worship. I will sing of the goodness of God!
In Jesus’ name, amen.
